Should Iowa State Be Concerned?

Iowa State was able to secure the victory in the first game against the North Dakota Fighting Hawks, but they didn’t look all that good. Iowa State’s offense only scored 21 points, but the defense did really step up giving up only three points. Iowa State scored seven points in three of the four quarters while the only quarter they didn’t score was in the 3rd. Under center for Iowa Stateis Rocco Becht who completed 20 of his 26 passes for 267 yards and two touchdowns. The running game didn’t have anyone they could lean on for a big run. Abu Sama III finished with five carries for 36 yards.

Wide receiver Jaylin Noel did have a huge game catching 8 passes for 135 yards and a touchdown. On defense they only allowed three points and they were able to finish with one interception. They did struggle to slowdown the run, and that is going to need to be quickly improved upon.

Iowa Offense Looked Good?

The last few years the Iowa offense has been a major concern but they sure looked good in the first game. Iowa faced off against Illinois State and they scored 40 points while the defense gave up zero points. At halftime they were only up 6-0 but in the second half they scored 34 points on the way to the victory. Iowa fans have to feel good about the way Cade McNamara looked as he completed 21 of his 31 passes for 251 yards and three touchdowns.

Running back Kaleb Johnson also had an impressive game finishing with 11 carries for 119 yards and a touchdown. Reece Vander Zee caught 5 passes and found the end zone twice. On defense they finished with one interception, and in this game they need to try and create a couple of turnovers.

Iowa State vs Iowa Prediction

36 points is a low total, but it’s still too high in this game. Iowa State’s offense wasn’t all that impressive in the first game and it’s not going to get any easier in this game against Iowa. Cade McNamara looked impressive in the first game, but he has been inconsistent since joining Iowa. He is going to go back to his struggles, and that will be the difference here. Neither team is reaching 17 points here, and this game will end up staying under the total. This is one of the stronger plays of the weekend.
